Angers 1-1 Le Havre: both remain in Ligue 1’s lower half with safety still to secure
Prosper Peter kept Angers afloat, scoring in the 28th minute after Lilian Rao-Lisoa stepped out from the back line and threaded the assist. That equaliser cancelled out the opener from Sofiane Boufal, who had given Didier Digard’s side a 13th-minute lead when Issa Soumaré’s early pass unpicked the back five. The first half belonged to Le Havre: their front three rotated through the inside channels, Soumaré winning duels and linking with Mbwana Samatta to drag markers out of position.
Coach Alexandre Dujeux pushed his wing backs higher after the interval. Emmanuel Biumla replaced Ousmane Camara in the 46th minute, tightening the midfield screen and giving Branco van den Boomen the licence to hit forward runners faster. Angers generated five shots on target overall and Peter forced Mory Diaw into a double-save spell just before the hour, yet they could not tilt the scoreboard.
Le Havre still carried the sharper threat until Arouna Sangante was sent off in the 75th minute for a last-man foul. Digard had already introduced Loïc Négo in the 69th minute, and after the red card he sent on Timothée Pembélé at 80 to steady a back four, but the dismissal invited constant deliveries into the box. Diaw answered with four stops, while at the other end Hervé Koffi’s seven saves kept Boufal and Soumaré from snatching a late winner.
The closing stages frayed: Louis Mouton and Négo were both cautioned in the 90+3rd-minute argument as Angers sensed the numerical edge slipping away. Pierrick Capelle’s withdrawal in the 73rd minute for Mouton hinted at tired legs, and when Goduine Koyalipou came on in the 80th minute the hosts finally had a runner beyond Peter, yet delivery and timing never aligned.
Tactical focus: Angers’ 5-3-2 under Dujeux survived because the back line compressed once Biumla entered, limiting Le Havre to shots from crowded central zones despite conceding 56 percent possession. Digard’s 3-4-1-2 flooded midfield early, with Lucas Gourna-Douath and Rassoul Ndiaye (booked in the 34th minute) dominating duels, but the shape became fragile once Sangante’s dismissal left Ayumu Seko exposed. Even then, Soumaré’s transitions illustrated why Le Havre’s expected goals reached 1.45 against Angers’ 1.07.

Le Havre stay on 30 points and remain winless in their last five league matches, yet the attacking patterns that produced Boufal’s goal offered encouragement. Angers move to 34 points under Dujeux and hold a nine-point cushion over the relegation play-off line. Attention now shifts to next weekend, where each will seek the green light for a decisive push away from danger.
