Liberia beat Sierra Leone 3-1 in Monrovia last night, handing T. Kojo another data point that his 4-2-3-1 can give the attack real bite heading toward competitive qualifiers.
The hosts settled quickly. With Nohan Kenneh and Kindness Cole holding position in front of the back four, Divine Teah had room to knit play between the lines while Kpah Sherman dragged markers away from Ayouba Kosiah. The pressure told when Sebastien Teclay scored in the 31st minute, the centre back capitalising on Liberia’s sustained spell in Sierra Leone’s half to break the deadlock. Liberia kept the foot down and the second arrived in the 43rd minute, Kosiah finishing off another surge just before the interval.
Kojo wanted sharper rotations through midfield and he got them in the second half. Liberia attacked the same channels, with Philip Tarnue and Emmanuel Fully pushing high to pin back Sierra Leone’s wide players. The reward came in the 73rd minute when Kosiah scored again, completing his brace and effectively ending the contest. Any late nerves were limited to the sixth minute of stoppage time, when Samuel Gandi clipped one back for M. Kallon’s side, but the whistle followed almost immediately.
Kallon’s lineup was listed without a fixed formation and the lack of clear structure showed. Yayah Kallon and Sullay Kaikai tried to combine off the front, but Liberia’s double pivot read the movements well, and Gandi’s late intervention could not mask the gaps Sierra Leone left on the break. For Kojo, Teclay’s authority alongside Arago Jamal and Kosiah’s ruthless edge are exactly the pillars he needs before the schedule toughens later this month.
