Panama 4-2 Dominican Republic
Thomas Christiansen saw his Panama side beat the Dominican Republic 4-2 at Estadio Rommel FernĂĄndez GutiĂ©rrez, a rehearsal in which he again leaned on squad rotation. VĂctor Griffith and TomĂĄs RodrĂguez justified their starting roles before half-time, then the reshuffled cast closed the night out.
Christiansen opened in a 5-4-1, trusting CĂ©sar Samudio behind a back five and tasking RodrĂguez with stretching Marcelo Neveleffâs 4-2-3-1. The reward came in the 16th minute when RodrĂguez scored, simple and direct. Griffith doubled the lead in the 44th minute, capitalising on midfield pressure that had already drawn a Pablo Rosario yellow card in the 37th minute.
Panamaâs rotation began on the half-hour, when Cecilio Waterman and CĂ©sar Blackman replaced JosĂ© Fajardo and IvĂĄn Anderson. Eight more outfield changes followed at the interval, introducing Ăric Davis, AndrĂ©s Andrade and others just as the hosts were settling into the second half. The visitors took advantage of that reset when Mariano DĂaz converted Juanca Pinedaâs pass in the 47th minute, but Waterman â on since the 30th minute â restored the two-goal cushion in the 57th minute after Andradeâs run from the left. Even Erick Japaâs 67th-minute finish could not derail the response.
The closing act came in the 89th minute, when Davis advanced down the flank and teed up Kadir BarrĂa to make it 4-2. Between those goals, Joseph Luis RodrĂguez collected Panamaâs only booking in the 83rd minute, and the remaining Dominican Republic changes (including Lucas BretĂłn and Alessandro Ovalle Santos at the restart) could not tilt the balance back.
Christiansen will be satisfied that both of his units delivered contributions, with Andrade and Davis supplying decisive assists from deep. Neveleff must tighten defensive spacing once the first press is beaten, because conceding four times despite tidy spells in possession is a reminder of the work still ahead.
Tactical Insight
Panamaâs 5-4-1 shifted into a 3-4-3 whenever the wing-backs pushed on, leaving Griffith to anchor transitions. Once the second-half cohort arrived, Andradeâs left-footed deliveries and Davisâs overlaps became the main supply lines, explaining the Waterman and BarrĂa goals. The Dominican Republic relied on Rosario and Jean Carlos LĂłpez to screen the centre, but Rosario toned down his aggression after the booking and the visitors lost their grip. Neveleffâs triple switch at the interval energised the wide areas, yet DĂaz still found himself isolated after his early second-half strike.

Looking Ahead
Panamaâs depth is peaking at a useful moment, with Davis, Andrade and Waterman reinforcing Christiansenâs belief in rising internal competition ahead of the next window. The Dominican Republic now need sharper structure behind DĂaz and greater continuity in their midfield pressing before stronger regional tests arrive.
